Freight Cost by Lane
A shipping line does not quote one price. It files a rate per route and per container type: Haiphong to Los Angeles in a 40' is one rate, the same port pair in a 20' is another, and a different route is another again. A forwarder sells the route the customer asked for, so the cost of the job is the rate of that route.
On a freight quotation the charge lines come from the shipment through Freight Sale (viin_freight_sale), and their Cost column is filled in by Supplier-Based Pricelist Margin (viin_sale_supplier_pricelist_margin), which reads the vendor price the markup was computed from. That lookup asks the carrier for a price without saying which route, so it returns the cheapest rate the carrier has filed on any route - and the margin the salesperson decides on belongs to a shipment nobody is selling.
